Please do your research when looking for Shar Pei puppies.
There are more then enough top quality Shar Pei breeders out there if you are willing to look.
Please, NEVER fall in love with the puppy in the window! It's a puppy not a sofa.
You must do your level best to educate yourself on OUR breed before it becomes YOUR breed! All breeds have their issues. Please know exactly what the next 8-13 years might entail when considering bringing a Shar Pei into your home. (god willing the next 15 years if your lucky!)
There are many many Shar Pei puppies available literally all over the world.Far too many of those puppies are less then healthy and may be of poor quality where our standard is concerned. *Even a pet quality puppy should meet a better part of the standard*
Getting to know our breed and then potential breeders is very important.Yes, in that order.
Some breeders you encounter may say anything to sell you a puppy. You do NOT want to buy from a breeder that will sell a puppy to just anyone!

If you are NOT questioned about your soundness as a potential owner by a breeder, be worried.
Be prepared! You will be interviewed, or you should be by a QUALITY breeder.
Many even require home visits!
Many will ask you to fill out a application form to determine your suitability. Do not see this as intrusive.

You want a breeder who cares about who buys their puppies. A breeder that wants a deposit and talks money FIRST, is NOT a breeder you want to deal with in my opinion. Money is NOT the first thing that needs to be discussed, not by the buyer or the breeder. Once you are certain you have found YOUR breeder, at that point a deposit may be required to hold a puppy from an upcoming litter, but not before you are sure! Not all breeders require a deposit.
Chinese Shar Pei breeders are not rare, but a QUALITY Shar Pei breeder can be!
Puppies in pet stores are oh so cute, but for the most part come from backyard breeders and tend to be unhealthy and have life long issues. Buying from pet stores keeps the BYB's in business! You do not want a puppy from a BYB.

You want your new Shar Pei puppy to be from a breeder that is reputable and concerned about the betterment of our breed
Personally I deal with only those that breed to standard.
I tend to stay away from the so called designer breeders.

Taking your time, and not being in a rush with getting a new Shar Pei puppy is very important! Being in a rush will likely be a disaster in the long term.
I would suggest speaking directly to at least 5 Chinese Shar Pei breeders about their puppies. Ask about health issues, temperament, soundness, how long they have been breeding, what conditions do their dogs live in. IE; kennel raised or home raised. Get the name of their VET and CALL them! Breeders will research your soundness as an owner. Return the favor and research their soundness as a breeder! Ask your breeder what health issues they have dealt with in their lines. A breeder with a long history has likely experienced everything from cancer, eye issues, to even Shar Pei Fever. Problems can arise in the best of lines and a breeder with years behind them is likely willing to discuss them. Honesty pays off in the long run. A breeder that has 20 years and tells you they have zero health issues in their lines are likely not being up front with you. The BEST breeder in the business has had issues.
If you are dealing with a NEW breeder ask THEM for contacts on THEIR lines. New breeders are fine, just be sure they can provide you a history of their stock. Even a breeder with 25 years experience started with just one dog. Don't count out NEW breeders. Just make sure they are being MENTORED by someone with experience!
Your due diligence will pay off in the long run! Finding this site, using it as a starting point, and your continued research with serve you well from this point forward! Best of luck from bearposhsharpei!
PLEASE CONSIDER SHAR PEI RESCUE AS A SOURCE FOR BOTH OLDER SHAR PEI, AS WELL AS SHAR PEI PUPPIES. SHAR PEI RESCUE GROUPS ARE OVERWHELMED AND NEED TO FIND HOMES FOR LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF CHINESE SHAR PEI WORLD WIDE! BEARPOSH DEALS WITH RESCUE IN CANADA, PLEASE ASK US HOW WE CAN HELP!

This is an ad I spotted on KIJIJI.
Read the ads content.
A breeder with 24+ years experience DOES NOT, or should not name BEAUTY as her/his bloodlines FIRST quality! It should be health, not beauty!
This ad says nothing about HEALTH!
I want to also make mention of the Valentines Day reference in this ad.
Puppies should not be given like a box of chocolates. Puppies should find there new homes when the new home is ready to receive it.
Length of time a breeder breeds does not in any way mean they are doing it correctly.
Please, just be careful when answering ad's, more importantly, ads on sites like Kijiji.
Kijiji is an market place that allows people the ability to sell everything from soup to nuts.
Kijiji is nothing more then a newspaper classified ad for the internet age.
**I have X'ed out anything in this ad that directly enables you to contact or identify this seller** Showing this ad merely is a way to show YOU how to NOT to pick a breeder. Again, this is an actual ad on Kijiji but ALL contact and breeder information has been removed.
