I'm no fan of winter jackets for dogs as a rule. Having said that, it's -39 with the windchill here today! I found Zephyr rather chilled the last day or so and decided
it was in his best interest to get a coat!

You all know that I am a nut when it comes to research right? Well I spent many
hours over the last few days researching GREAT doggy coats that fit a Shar Pei.
I also did some research on doogy boots that I had discovered LAST year, but did
not buy because he was to young to fit.

I hit about 6 pet stores today, tried on about 20 coats and decided on 2 brands.
Ending up with the one I had researched, and found the best!

k-9 overcoat made by RUFF WEAR http://www.ruffwear.com
The coat is light, and wind, water and weather resistant. Zephyr, a thin lanky Pei
fit the size MEDIUM best.

Most of you know I have pushed the MUTTLUK brand dog boots for years, and
STILL DO! They are WONDERFUL!

But I wanted to try the brand I found last year. Also made by RUFFWEAR. They
are AMAZING! So easy to put on, and they have a terrific fit on the foot! Zephyr
is now in a size SMALL. Zephyr has very standard size paws for a Shar Pei. These
boots are called:
bark'n boots, GRIP TREX.
They are for all conditions, all terrain and all seasons! I will use them in the summer on
the HOT pavement as well! They have a soul That is made by Vibram. Vibram is very very well known and seen in over 400 brands of human/people shoes and boots! It's very strong and long lasting! I came home, took Zephyr out in the snow wearing his new boots and they did not move! Jovi was wearing MUTTLUKS, they performed as
well and as great as always!

Truth be known? I love both brands! I think I may lean towards my new GRIP TREX
for a few reasons. They are SO easy to put on, they stay on in the snow, they
protect from all weather, and I think the VIBRAM soul might outlast, long term, the MUTTLUKS.

As for his new coat? I think I may a good choice that will last many seasons to come.

BTW, I am not promoting anything, or selling anything! I am merely telling you guys
what my research has concluded, and what I decided on buying for Zephyr..........

Hehe those are some cutie pooches in some beautiful new outerwear ;)

Chloe just has a wooly sweater I bought at the pet store, it keeps her snug .. but then again we arent have -30 weather like your area Devi!

I seen someone who used an actually doggy snowsuit, anyone else try those? I would think Chloe would have trouble walking/running:/

Hi All

Pei and clothes go hand in hand don't they?

I love the picture of the boots you have Devi and am going to look those up.

We've had good success here with Muttluks.  They are quite good.

When MeiMei was doing Search & Rescue we had to really  "up" the quality and go over another type of boot

They work very well too, stay on even in deep deep snow.

As far as outerwear, we get what's often on sale at the pet store whether it be parkas or sweaters, but when we are into serious issues or on an extended outdoor activity in the WInter, we have started to use the body suits from http://www.k9topcoat.com/

These are great for pei with skin issues as well.

Cheers

MM

The boots I use these days are great for both the harsh cold winter as well as the gravel and hot pavement of any summer, even a Texas summer.

I used Muttluks for years and love them. I just love my new ones better on several levels......I would still say if you find Muttluks they will serve you very very well. Great boot.
