Years ago when I got my first Shar Pei puppy, things were going along just fine. Then one day I was rubbing her neck, below the chin area and it was all gummy and wet! I freaked! Upon further inspection I realized that something was wrong! I put on my VET hat and did the WRONG thing! I put Neosporin on the area! The problem did not go away! I rushed Posh to the vet and was told the area nedded to be DRY not WET! The Neosporin was making it stay wet! I was told that the area in question must have been getting wet when the puppy was drinking and staying moist after. This created a gummy sticky mess! I was told to simply wipe the area DRY after EVERY time she drinks or eats. I did, and NEVER had an further problems! I continue this practice with Zephyr and Jovi. Jovi most importantly due to her HUGE bib like wrinkle on her neck. Personally I would advie this wiping dry practice to all Pei owners. It takes only seconds and if they are anything like Jovi, they love it! If you tend not to dry the area, please watch for any wet, gummy or sticky hair/skin just below the chin area where the water tends to pool after drinking. Devi | |
