I am a research nut when it comes to dog food for my Shar Pei. It'sbeen my mission to feed the best well balanced, easy to feed food. Ihave done the kibble, dehydrated and now the freeze dried foods. Idon't do raw for my own reasons.
I try and avoid chicken basedfoods and food with chicken of ANY kind in ANY form in it. I tendtowards the mid to high grade foods. I switch often and NEVERtransition bag to bag. I switch protein sources every few weeks forhealth reasons. Feeding one single protein source, IE;chicken/beef/fish/lamb whatever is not healthy for your dog or mine. ItKILLED Posh!
I finally came to realize it's VERY hard to find foods that have ZERO chicken it them. How I tried! Read your labels.
I have just switched Zephyr onto a newer food called TRUTH. It's made in California by a company called GRANDMA LUCYS. They have a fricken great and fun website!
I started Zephyr on their LAMB based TRUTH line of freeze dried dog food. Totally grain free! It's very very easy to feed and Zephyr LOVES it! I wish it had MORE meat in it but that's alright as I supplement with other forms of dog food.
Truth Lamb is a 26% protein food.
Ialso add TRIPE and BUFFALO by Before Grains, and use Natural BalanceSweet Potato/Venison kibble for fiber and bulk. Sardines have alwaysbeen part of his diet. He also gets SHOW STOPPER by Animal Naturals ( www.an-nat.com ) It's an all in one coat and body optimizer.
Anyway, this is simply what I do.... Whenyour heart dog dies because of single source protein feeding, one tendsto get a bit nuts, as have I. When I see what some owners feed theirdogs I want to be sick right their in the dog food isle!!

We have now been feeding the new TRUTH freeze dried food, mixed with Natural Balance sweet potato and venison for long enough that we know we are on the right track with Zephyr! The combo is working well for him. I will switch the dry kibble back and forth after my current bag empties to another protein source. I did add an all natural enzyme dietary supplement a few weeks ago. It's a powder product that maximizes nutrition by improving nutrient absorption. The brand name of the product is PROZYME.
